Ukrainian universities have approached their Indian medical students urging them to join distance classes from a third country but thousands of the first-year Ukrainian university students are still staring at an uncertain future.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA), in a FAQ released on Thursday, clarified that medical students, classes of whom started before November 18 last year can only go for distance classes in third countries as offered by Ukraine universities.

"The universities are approaching students to continue online classes for theoretical subjects but for practical, they are offering distance education campus at third countries. I had applied for a campus in Georgia but it turns out that the IMC will not allow those students classes of whom started after November 18," says Sidhant, first year student at a Ukrainian University.

"There are two types of entrance in the Ukrainian universities; summer and winter. Those who started in summer, had to wait for classes as the war is going on. The universities kept us in dark about the war, they didn't inform us that it was coming and they are at a full-scale war. Now we state at an uncertain future," says Sidhant.

Ankit, another first year medical student at a Ukrainian University says, "The only option we have to complete our degree is at a distance education campus. The students shall be allowed to choose country and campus if the Ukrainian universities are offering them. They shall not be stopped to pursue their career. Future of thousands of students are at stake, the government shall take a stand for us."

"If the online classes can only provide theoretical subjects, then how will we complete our practical subjects, which are very important in medical studies," he added.
