Meat shops on Kanwar yatra route to remain shut, orders Ghaziabad official

Ghaziabad DM Rajesh Kumar Singh has ordered the closure of meat shops falling on the Kanwar Yatra route from July 18 to July 27.

The Ghaziabad administration has ordered the closure of meat shops along all routes in the Kanwar Yatra district, which is set to begin from Thursday. Ghaziabad district magistrate Rakesh Kumar Singh said that no meat shops should be operated on the Kanwar route.

Ghaziabad DM has given orders to close all meat shops that fall within 500 metres of Kanwar Yatra marg and temples from July 18 to July 27. Apart from this, meat shops located near Dudheshwarnath temple will also remain shut and the orders have been given under Section 144.

A few days back, the Noida administration ordered the closure of all shops selling meat and liquor. Suhas LY, district magistrate, Gautam Budh Nagar has asked the officials to make sure that liquor and meat shops are closed on the routes of the Kanwar Yatra. The decision was taken during the preparations meeting for Eid and Kanwar Yatra.

The Kanwar Yatra is scheduled to be held from July 14 to July 26 this year after a gap of two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. A huge influx of kanwariyas is being anticipated this time owing to the two-year break.

Kanwar Yatra, which takes place in the month of Sawan, will end on July 26. Kanwariyas (devotees of Lord Shiva) collect water from the Ganga River at Haridwar, Uttarakhand to offer at Shiva temples in their areas as part of the yatra.
