MCG to host Brazil vs Argentina ahead of 2022 Qatar World Cup, Neymar and Messi expected to take part

This friendly will be a preparation for Lionel Messi's preparation for his final World Cup in Qatar this season.

Fans would be excited at the prospect of watching Brazil vs Argentina in the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground in June. Victoria state's sports minister Martin Pakula told Melbourne's 3AW radio station that he was told to expect the arrival of both Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr, who are apparently taking this FIFA friendly quite seriously in the run up to the 2022 Qatar World Cup, scheduled to be hosted in the winter months.

"Our expectation, based on the discussions we've had, is that players like (Lionel) Messi and Neymar will be here," he told Melbourne's 3AW radio station.

"We can't be 100% certain about that but we've been told this is an important preparation for them in the lead up to the World Cup."

If the Copa America finals back in July 2021 is of any indication, this game, although a friendly, could have quite a bit of spark. The South American sides have distinct identities of football, with Brazil the more flowing one, owing to their exceptional ball players, while Argentina likes to play hard football, releasing the likes of Angel di Maria, Lautaro Martinez and Lionel Messi on the counters.

This would also possibly be the last time Australia see Lionel Messi is an Argentina jersey, with the possibility that the seven time Ballon d'Or might retire after the Qatar World Cup.

At the moment, it is not confirmed if Messi and Neymar will visit Australia or not, but it could be confirmed inside the next month, considering June is an off season for footballers that play in Europe.
