Maharashtra mourns the tragic loss of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who died in a devastating aircraft crash near Baramati. The incident has left the state in shock as investigations begin into the cause of the accident.
Maharashtra was plunged into shock on Wednesday morning after a small aircraft carrying Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar crash-landed near Baramati and burst into flames, killing all five people on board in a series of explosions that left rescuers helpless.
An eyewitness at the site described watching the aircraft descend uncontrollably before crashing and erupting into fire, triggering multiple blasts that prevented any rescue attempt.
“I saw it with my eyes. This is really painful. When the aircraft descended, it seemed it would crash, and it did crash. It then exploded. There was a massive explosion,” the witness said.
Recounting the moments after the crash, the eyewitness said locals rushed towards the burning wreckage but were forced to retreat as flames engulfed the aircraft.
“After that, we rushed here and saw that the aircraft was on fire. There were four to five explosions in the aircraft again. More people came here, and they tried to pull the people out. But since this was a huge fire, people could not help,” the witness said.
