Residents of Manapalayam village urge district administration to replace dilapidated overhead tank and repair unsafe road conditions.
:
Residents of Manapalayam village in Musiri block in the distric have urged the district administration to build a new overhead tank to replace the dlipidated one in the village.
Around 3,000 residents receive water through this overhead tank. But the supporting pillars of the overhead tank at Manapalayam have weakened, as the concrete has chipped away at the base, exposing the metal bracing, the tank at risk of toppling over. Cracks have also developed on the walls of the tank, the residents said in a representation to the district authorities on Monday.
Expressing concerned over the safety of the overhead tank, the residents said that an anganwadi and a school were located nearby.
The petitioners also highlighted the poor condition of the road from Amoor to Manapalayam and sought its relaying.
This road is cratered. As this road gets slippery due to the rains, and owing to the cultivation fields on either side, many buses are reluctant to go to Manapalayam, complained residents.
“Manapalayam village is a secluded area. This road offers a vital connection to Amoor where we can visit the hospitals and market. Many also go there to work. The lack of proper road deprives us of access to Amur. Several motorists have also been reported to slip and fall on the road, as it is unmotorable. It would be helpful if the situation was remedied,” said C. Periyasami, a resident.
