The Kalaburagi district police have arrested a 27-year-old man who allegedly killed his paramour and burned her body in an agricultural field near Kinni Sadak village in Kamalapur taluk of Kalaburagi district in Karnataka, on April 21.
After finding a charred body in the agriculture field in Kinni Sadak on April 6, the owner of the agriculture land Neelakant Panchal lodged a complaint at Kamalapur police station.
“Initially, the police were clueless as identifying the body had become difficult due to burns on the whole body. The accused burned her body in a bid to destroy evidence,” said Adduru Srinivasulu, Superintendent of Police, told mediapersons on April 21.
Mr. Srinivasulu said that the victim, Arti, was married to Anil Joshi of Junagadh district in Gujarat 13 years ago. She had come to Kalaburagi a few months ago. She was staying in Devi Nagar and was planning to settle down in Kalaburagi.
When the police found out that the victim was in a relationship with a man, identified as Shivanand Rajapur of Kalaburagi, for a long time, they gathered information and call records of the suspect.
On being questioned, Shivanand confessed to killing his Aarti, as she had forced him to marry her. On April 5, Shivanand took Arti to Deval Ganagapur temple in Afzalpur. Later in the evening, he drove her to an isolated agriculture field near Kinni Sadak where he strangled her to death before setting her body afire.
The police seized a mangalsutra, silver bangles, anklets, the victim’s cell phone, and the vehicle used during the crime.
