Mamata Banerjee putting people of Bengal in danger to woo Goa's voters: BJP MLA

India Today

Taking a dig at the state's decision on lifting restrictions, BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul slammed Mamata Banerjee on Twitter.

A political war has erupted between the principal opposition BJP and the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal after images of an overcrowded Park Street in Kolkata on December 25 went viral on the internet. At a time, many states and cities have called for restrictions, especially night curfew amidst the rising cases of covid-19 and fear of the omicron variant, West Bengal government led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee seems to have thought otherwise. The state government has relaxed the night curfew for the last week of this month, from December 24, 2021, to January 1, 2022, to let people celebrate the festive season.Taking a dig at the state's decision on lifting restrictions, BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul slammed Mamata Banerjee on Twitter. Posting a picture of December 25 when traffic was stalled for a while at Park Street and it was made into a walking street for a few hours, she stated that Mamata Banerjee was trying to woo Christian voters in Goa."MamataOfficial to please the people of GOA are you not putting the people BENGAL at DANGER?? You have been proved by your own GOA MLA that you are playing dirty divisive politics of HATE!" wrote the BJP leader.Even as the dig at Trinamool Congress was due to the party's attempt to venture into Goa, TMC MP and senior leader Sougata Roy thought otherwise. He claimed that the allegations of BJP made no sense."Goa is not related to night curfew. Christmas was only for 25th now Christians don't have a festival. Now where do Christians have a festival? They have lost it," said the veteran Member of Parliament.
