Malhar certified meat for Hindus | All you need to know about Maharashtra government’s move Premium

Government launches Malhar certification for Jhatka meat, ensuring adherence to Hindu traditions and empowering Hindu community vendors.

Maharashtra Minister Nitesh Rane on Monday (March 10, 2025) announced a special move by the State Government to provide certification for meat as per Hindu religious traditions.

The specially launched website, malharcertification.com, claims it is “a certified platform for Jhatka mutton and chicken vendors. It ensures that goat and sheep meat, sacrificed according to Hindu religious traditions, is fresh, clean, free from saliva contamination, and not mixed with any other animal meat. This meat is available exclusively through Hindu Khatik community vendors. Therefore, we encourage everyone to purchase mutton only from vendors certified by Malhar.”

Mr. Rane said on Monday (March 10, 2025), “A very important step has been taken for the Hindu community of Maharashtra. Malhar certification, a new concept has been brought forth for Jhatka mutton. Through this, we will be able to get our own rightful mutton shops. These will be places where the Hindus will be in the majority, the sellers will be Hindus. This meat will not be adulterated. This is a key step in empowering our Hindu community and financially strengthening our Hindu youth. This was the thinking in the minds of my colleagues. We should use this certification the most. In fact, the Hindu community should not even look at shops which don’t have Malhar certification.”

The move was being mulled by several right wing organisations in the State in response to Halal meat.
