Recieved positive response from Taliban, says MEA
With most Indians now evacuated from Afghanistan, the Government of India said its “primary and immediate” concern was to curb any terrorism threat to India emanating from Afghanistan under the Taliban-led regime. Responding to questions on the reasoning and nature of the Indian Ambassador to Qatar’s meeting with the Taliban political office chief in Doha, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) repeated that the meeting had been requested at the behest of the Taliban, and would neither confirm nor deny whether India still considers the group a terrorist organisation. “Let us just treat the Doha meeting for what it is... it’s just a meeting . These are very early days,” said MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi, when asked if India could consider recognising the Taliban government which, officials said, was likely to be announced soon.More Related News
