Mahila court awards death penalty to Satish who pushed a college girl in front of moving train at St. Thomas Mount

Mahila Court sentences D. Sathish to death for murdering college student M. Sathya, along with fines and imprisonment.

The Mahila Court at Allikulam, which heard the case of murder of college student M. Sathya, pronounced death penalty on the accused D. Sathish on Monday (December 30, 2024). Along with death penalty the court also gave a cash fine and rigorous imprisonment.

The Mahila court, where the case was being heard, sentenced Sathish to be guilty of the murder of Sathya on December 28. The accused Sathish was convicted under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act, 1998. 

The judge, in her order, said considering the gravity of the crime Sathish was given death penalty, a fine of Rs. 25,000, and also three years of imprisonment along with a fine of ₹10,000 under the Prevention of Atrocities on Women Act. 

The judge stated in the order that out of the total fine of ₹35,000, ₹25,000 should be paid as compensation to the sister of the victim, and also ₹10 lakh to be paid as compensation to the family from the Tamil Nadu government’s compensation fund. 

The judge also ordered that the documents related to the case be sent to the Madras High Court for confirmation of the verdict. 

According to the police, D. Sathish had killed the 20-year-old woman by pushing her in front of a moving train at St. Thomas Mount railway station on October 13, 2022. Both were living at the police quarters in Alandur, where Sathish, who was the son retired special sub inspector, stalked Sathya, the daughter of woman head constable Ramalakshmi of Adambakkam police station. He had pushed her in front of a train during a heated argument. The accused Sathish was arrested from a hideout in Thoraipakkam on October 14. 

Initially the Mambalam Government Railway Police filed a murder case and was investigating. Later the then Director General of Police C. Sylendra Babu issued orders transferring the murder case to the Crime Branch CID for further investigation.
