A woman school teacher who died after being hit by a vehicle while riding her moped in Maharashtra’s Buldhana district earlier this month was allegedly murdered in a planned hit ordered by her husband.
The incident took place on March 2, when Vrushali Prakash Gawande, a school teacher, was on her way to school on her moped. An unidentified vehicle rammed into her from behind, killing her on the spot.
Initially treated as a road accident, the case took a dramatic turn after the victim’s family raised suspicions about the circumstances surrounding her death. Following their doubts, the police launched a detailed investigation.
According to police, CCTV footage from the road where the incident occurred was examined as part of the probe. During the review, investigators identified a suspicious vehicle and took both the vehicle and its driver into custody.
During questioning, the driver allegedly revealed that the victim’s husband and his friend had hired him to deliberately hit the teacher’s moped, offering him Rs 1 lakh as contract money.
Based on the driver’s statement, police registered a murder case against the teacher’s husband and two others.

As per the Bill, those involved in unlawful conversions on the pretext of marriage will be punished with imprisonment of seven years and shall also be liable for a fine of Rs 1 lakh. Violations in respect of a minor, a person of unsound mind, a woman or a person belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe will be punished with imprisonment of seven years and a fine of Rs 5 lakh.
