Indian Institute of Management Mumbai faces scrutiny over alleged admission irregularities as the Telangana High Court issues notices following a student’s petition.
The admission policy of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Mumbai is being questioned over alleged procedural lapses and candidates with lower percentile being called for interviews.
Based on a petition filed by Hyderabad student Kataru Satya Sai, the Telangana High Court issued a notice to the institute followed by contempt proceedings for allegedly failing to comply with its earlier directions.
The notices were issued to IIM-Mumbai director Manoj Kumar Tiwari and chairperson of the Board of Governors Shashi Kiran Shetty, directing them to file their responses by April 30, as per the candidate’s claim.
In his petition, the aspirant challenged his exclusion from the shortlisted candidates for the 2026-28 Management programme. He claimed that despite securing a higher CAT 2025 percentile than some shortlisted candidates, he was not called for the Personal Interview round. He claimed that the declared admission policy was not followed, which led him to being denied the opportunity.
The petitioner sought directions from the court to declare him eligible for shortlisting. The court granted interim relief and directed the institute to file its response to the writ petition. However, the candidate moved the contempt plea claiming that there was no response from the institute.
The Telangana High Court, in its hearing on April 2, issued show cause notices to the officials concerned, seeking an explanation on why action should not be initiated under the Contempt of Courts Act. The matter has been posted for further hearing on April 30.
