Police have registered a case at Ghazipur police station and launched an investigation, examining digital evidence and phone numbers linked to the accused.
A woman in Lucknow has accused her cousin of blackmail, harassment and death threats after he allegedly posted her private photographs and images of her house on Instagram in an attempt to defame her, police said.
The case was registered at the Ghazipur police station following a complaint by the woman, who alleged that the accused – identified as her aunt’s son Suraj Kumar Rana – had been threatening and harassing her for months.
According to the complaint, the harassment began in December 2025 when Rana allegedly started sending her repeated messages. The situation escalated on February 23, 2026, when he allegedly uploaded the woman’s private photographs on Instagram.
The woman told police that after she objected to the posts, the accused allegedly threatened to kill her father and brother.
She said she blocked several phone numbers used by the accused, but he allegedly continued to contact her using new SIM cards, sending abusive and obscene messages and making threatening calls.
The accused also allegedly tried to pressure her into meeting him in Lucknow and later attempted to coerce her into a physical relationship, the complaint stated.

This moment comes days after the Supreme Court allowed Harish Rana to die with dignity – a historic first court-ordered case of passive euthanasia in India. The court acknowledged the medical opinion that Rana will never recover and that the tubes that feed him and keep him alive are only prolonging his pain.
