Lucknow: Speeding car runs over half a dozen people, 1 critical

Two men, speeding while drunk driving, ran over almost half a dozen people late last night in Lucknow. One person was critically injured in the accident.

Two men ran over almost half a dozen people while drunk driving in Lucknow. The car came speeding across the street, hit the people dining at the hotel and then stopped only after it rammed into the toilet. All the injured have been admitted to the hospital with one in critical condition.

The incident took place in the Hazratganj region’s Dalibagh Colony where local residents Ganesh Gupta and Rana Pratap had opened a hotel near the intersection. They were serving food to customers late at night when the car came speeding and first hit a rickshaw puller followed by two two-wheelers, finally coming to a halt after hitting the wall of the toilet. A crowd soon gathered after which the accused were beaten up.

Police reached the spot and sent the injured to a hospital while arresting the accused.

According to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP), Raghvendra Mishra, “The drivers of the car, identified as Farooq and Akshay, have been arrested for causing hurt to so many people, one of whom is critically injured. Proper action will be taken against them.”
