UP government will distribute nursing officer appointment letters on March 22, ending months of delay and protests by candidates despite the recruitment process being completed earlier.
The Uttar Pradesh government has announced March 22 as the date for distributing appointment letters to newly selected nursing officers, after the issue gained attention following a report by India Today Group’s sister website Aaj Tak.
The appointment letters will be handed over at a function at Lok Bhavan in Lucknow, where Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will distribute them. Necessary directions for the event have been issued by Additional Chief Secretary Amit Kumar Ghosh.
The announcement comes after sustained protests by candidates selected through the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) Staff Nurse (Nursing Officer) Allopathy 2023 recruitment.
Many of the selected candidates, most of them women, had been making repeated visits to the Directorate of Health and even the residence of Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Brajesh Pathak, demanding their appointment letters.
At one point, over 150 candidates surrounded the health directorate, while on another occasion, they were stopped at the gates of Jawahar Bhavan and denied entry. Only a handful were allowed inside after repeated requests.
Several candidates said they had been given repeated assurances and dates, but the appointment letters never materialised.
