Ghaziabad Police is probing the role of social media platforms in 'inciting religious sentiments' after a video of a Muslim man being thrashed in Loni surfaced online.
After a video of a group of six people thrashing an elderly Muslim man and chopping off his beard in Loni, Ghaziabad surfaced online, the Ghaziabad Police is now probing the role of social media platforms and their users in "inciting religious sentiments". According to sources, the police are investigating to determine whether the video was circulated with the intention of promoting communal disharmony. On receiving a complaint in this vein, the police can register an FIR against social media platforms and their users.
The incident occurred when the procession was passing near a mosque in Karnataka's Bagalkote when the Hindu organisation alleged that stones were pelted. Later, police arrested 8 people and prohibited people from gathering. The police have maintained that no one suffered major injury.
