LG’s smartphone business has finally reached an important stage towards its demise. There is a report that says the South Korean tech giant on Monday stopped production of smartphones, marking the beginning of what could otherwise have been a flourishing business against the likes of Apple and Samsung. This comes weeks after LG announced to shutter its mobile phone business that was still reeling from heavy losses for over six years. Per a report by Asia Business Daily, LG Electronics took its smartphones off the production lines earlier this Monday. But this happened weeks after the original announcement that the company made in April. Back then, LG had said that the winding up of its phone business would take some time because it had to fulfill obligations to partners, including carriers in several markets that sell LG phones. This may have included units of the latest LG Velvet and the LG Wing that stunned the tech world with their beautiful designs and outlandish approach. LG announced the two smartphones last year. The facility in Vietnam that was manufacturing many phones for LG till now will now turn into household appliance making factories, according to the publication. The status of the rest of the facilities is not known right now, but the production halt falls in line with LG’s plan that will gradually see the death of the smartphone business.
