Lassi for land-grabber: Kanpur Police’s dubious hospitality caught on camera, probe ordered
India Today
A probe has been ordered after an alleged land-grabber was seen sipping lassi and being treated hospitably at a police station in UP's Kanpur.
In a video that went viral on social media, an alleged land-grabber can be seen sipping lassi with the police at Chakeri police station in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur.
Kamal Bhatia, who has against him several cases of encroachment on government land, was greeted by Station House Officer Madhur Mishra and provided with lassi, juices and cold water. The officer even left his chair and sat on a stool in the presence of Bhatia, it has been alleged.
A probe has now been ordered into the incident.
Two years ago, Kamal Bhatia was accused of occupying army land. Recently, shopkeepers in Kanpur’s Lal Bangla said he grabbed their land after having their shops demolished by the local authorities.
Kamal Bhatia’s name was not included in the latest land mafia list.
When SHO Madhur Mishra was asked about the matter, he said that Kamal Bhatia had come to the police station with Kanpur Development Authority officials.
In response to the allegation that he left his chair in Kamal Bhatia’s presence, he said he never sits on that chair as it is occupied by the Assistant Commissioner of Police or other senior officers.
