WASHINGTON – After playing nearly 30 North American shows between July and September, traveling through Europe, Australia and Japan and returning for another round of Mother Monster magic in North America this year, Lady Gaga has mastered the Monster Ball.
Her wildly ambitious pop-opera ‒ the most gratifying concert in 2025 according to, well, us ‒ remains a stunning affair. It's a place where feather plumes and marching boots coexist easily, where the wild upper-body gyrations in the Grammy-winning "Abracadabra" and the swoony melody of "Die with a Smile" spotlight the glorious conundrum that is Gaga. Is she playing a character? Prompting us to contemplate the dualities of dark and light? Opening her soul as Stefani Germanotta?
Yes.
Lady Gaga, who turns 40 on March 28, has made a few tweaks to the 2026 version of her Mayhem Ball, and continues to shuffle the latter half of the setlist. While she's still wrestling with the red-clad demon of her past in a sandbox filled with kitty litter and ghouls during "Disease," blazing through the funky two-punch of "Killah" and "Zombieboy" with a subtle purple-lighting nod to Prince and imbuing "Million Reasons" with air-grasping drama, Gaga is also tossing in some lesser-known fan favorites.
The early 2026 addition of "The Dead Dance" was scuttled her after February run of shows in Los Angeles, but she's sometimes slipped in piano versions of "The Edge of Glory" or "Hair" and ended the night with casual singalongs to "Plastic Doll," "911" and "Sine from Above."
