Netflix confirmed on March 12 that directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans will return to helm the Sony Pictures Animation-produced follow-up to the hit 2025 animated film, which broke records, topped charts and racked up trophies during the award season.
The sequel will be made as part of Netflix's newly inked multiyear writing and directing partnership with Kang and Appelhans.
"I feel immense pride as a Korean filmmaker that the audience wants more from this Korean story and our Korean characters," Kang said in a statement. "There’s so much more to this world we have built, and I’m excited to show you. This is only the beginning."
Kang certainly felt the heat from the global fanbase, telling USA TODAY in October that "I think the fans are, at this point, demanding it. And we are excited to see if there are some other possibilities for stories."
