Timothée Chalamet may not have won an Oscar Sunday night, but he wasn't the only one cutting his losses.
Kevin O'Leary, who co-starred with Chalamet in "Marty Supreme," revealed in an interview on the red carpet that he had put money down on his fellow actor taking home the trophy for best actor. Chalamet, 30, was nominated for his portrayal of a cocky New York-born ping pong player, but ultimately lost out to Michael B. Jordan, who won for his role in "Sinners."
"I just put 1,000 bucks on Kalshi walking in here that he's going to win," O'Leary told Variety on the red carpet of the March 15 Academy Awards. Kalshi is a popular sports betting site.
O'Leary, a onetime "Shark Tank" star who made his acting debut in "Marty Supreme," defended Chalamet after controversy surrounded recent comments the actor made implying audiences no longer cared about opera and ballet as art forms.
"I know the voting stops long before that controversy happened," O'Leary told Variety. "The kid is a great kid. He took a bum rap on that. And by the way, gave a lot of promo to opera houses and ballet."
