In Kerala’s Ernakulam district, a rape accused presented a ‘yellow thread’ as proof of his marriage to the complainant in the case in order to secure anticipatory bail. He said he tied the yellow thread around the complainant’s neck before the alleged rape and was, thus, “indulging in a marital relationship with the woman”.
The court refused to accept the thread as proof of marriage and rejected his bail plea.
