The district administration opened 360 relief camps and shifted 58,512 people to the camps as intermittent heavy rain and winds continued to lash Kochi city and its suburbs on Monday.
A total of 51 houses were damaged in Paravur, Kanayannur, Muvattupuzha, Aluva and Kothamangalam taluks. Of this, one has been fully damaged.
There are 27 camps in the coastal areas that now accommodate 8,700 people.
In Pallippuram panchayat, members of four families shifted voluntarily to their relatives’ house as the coast began to flood, bringing water into their house compound and inundating the Church of God cupola near the coast, said panchayat member Jesna Sanal.
In the meanwhile, the situation has grown worse in Chellanam panchayat, which is facing a swelling sea and high waves triggered by occasional spells of wind.
