Kerala Governor lashes out at Muslim leader for 'humiliating' schoolgirl on stage
India Today
Reacting to a video of a Muslim leader scolding event organisers for inviting a schoolgirl on stage, Arif Mohammed Khan said the incident showed how clerics continue to push Muslim women into seclusion.
Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan on Wednesday strongly criticised Muslim leader Abdulla Musaliyar for 'humiliating' a schoolgirl on stage. On May 10, Musaliyar was caught on camera scolding members of Samastha Kerala Jem-iyyathul Ulama (SKJU), an association of Kerala Sunni scholars, for inviting the schoolgirl on stage during a felicitation event in Malappuram district.
Taking to Twitter, the governor said, “Sad to know that a young talented girl was humiliated on stage in Malappuram district while receiving a well-deserved award simply because she was born into a Muslim family. This is yet another example of how Muslim clerics continue to push hard Muslim women into seclusion and suppress their personality in total defiance of Qur'anic commands and provisions of the Constitution.”
