Kanpur cop booked for raping, impregnating woman on pretext of marriage

A police constable in Kanpur has been booked for allegedly raping and impregnating a woman on the pretext of marriage.

A woman from Kanpur has alleged that a police constable sexually exploitated her for two years on the pretext of marriage. The survivor, who has filed a complaint with the police commissioner, alleged that the accused impregnated her and refused to marry her.

The accused has been identified as Batukdhar Dwivedi, who is posted as a constable in the police department. The girl reached the commissioner's office and demanded action against the policeman. The survivor alleged that the cop refused to marry her and also threatened her that he would make her video viral on social media.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), East, Pramod Kumar, told India Today, "An application has been received by senior officials. A detailed investigation is being done and legal action is being taken. We are also trying to find out the whereabouts of the constable. The incident happened around 2-2.5 years ago and the matter has come to our notice now."

The woman said that the accused sexually exploited her for two years on the pretext of marriage. She said, "Initially, he told me he would marry me when he would be selected in the police force. We went to Chitrakoot where my mother caught us red-handed. He even promised my mother that he would marry me when I turned 18."

"I became pregnant and the accused refused to marry me. He started blackmailing me that he would make my video viral," she said.
