Bombay High Court on Wednesday permitted Kangana Ranaut to withdraw a plea seeking to quash an FIR registered in 2021 against her.
The Bombay High Court on Wednesday permitted actor Kangana Ranaut to withdraw a plea that she had filed to seek the quashing of an FIR registered against her at Khar police station, Mumbai, in 2021.
The FIR was registered by Ashish Kaul, author of a book that has been translated into Hindi as Kashmir Ki Yodhha Rani Didda. The police had also filed a chargesheet in the case.
Kaul said that he had exclusive copyrights to the life story of Didda, the princess of Lohar (Poonch) and the queen of Kashmir, and had allegedly sent an email about the storyline of his book to Ranaut.
In turn, the actor used some part of the story in a tweet while announcing a movie, allegedly without Kaul’s permission. The film, Ranaut wrote, was to be titled Manikarnika Returns: The Legend of Didda.
Kaul had first approached a Magistrate court which had directed for the registration of the FIR.
On Wednesday, advocate Adnan Shaikh, appearing for Kaul, pointed out that Ranaut had filed a similar petition way back in 2021 and that had been partly heard.
