Udhayanidhi Stalin promises establishment of Kalaignar University if DMK returns to power, addressing voters in Thanjavur.
Deputy Chief Minister Udhayandhi Stalin on Monday said the university proposed in the name of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi would be established once the DMK was voted to power again.
Pointing to the DMK government’s move to establish an university named after Kalaignar at Kumbakonam, Mr. Udhayanidhi alleged that the former Governor R.N. Ravi had blocked the initiative. “Once the DMK returns to power, the university will be established,” he said addressing election rallies held at Thiruvaiyaru, Kumbakonam, and Thiruvidaimaruthur Assembly segments in Thanjavur district on April 6.
Mr. Udhayanidhi listed the welfare schemes and infrastructure development projects brought to these constituencies by MLAs Durai Chandrasekaran, G. Anbalagan, and Govi Chezhiaan, respectively.
Terming the 2026 election as a bout between Tamil Nadu and New Delhi, the Deputy Chief Minister wanted the electorate to prove that the State was always out of control of the Centre. He warned that the BJP was trying to administer Tamil Nadu through the back door, which should not at all be entertained.
While canvassing votes for the DMK alliance party candidate, A.M. Shajahan of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) who is contesting on Ladder symbol at Papanasam, the DMK Youth Wing leader assured the voters of unveiling a whole lot of welfare schemes for the constituency if the electorate chose the IUML nominee to represent them in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
