However, his BFF Arjun Kapoor has always been standing in support of the actor. At a press conference for Ek Villain Returns, Arjun defended Ranveer and said there was no need for a discussion. In fact, John also spoke about his bold shoot that he did for Dostana, which went viral back in the day.

Arjun Kapoor defended BFF Ranveer Singh's bold photoshoot for PAPER Magazine. At a press conference held in Delhi for Ek Villain Returns, the actor spoke about the current talk of the town. He said, "Ranveer Singh ek aise shakhs hain, jo hi karte hain apne personality ke wajah se karte hain. He is always that person who is the way he is. Koi dikhawa nahi hain. If he is happy doing what he is doing and if it’s done aesthetically and if it is something that is coming from a genuine place to showcase how comfortable he is with his body... I think opinions are always fair like I always say. But it doesn’t mean it has to get into forcing your opinion down. He has every right to enjoy entertaining people in whichever way he seems right, we should not give it too much importance. We should look at the positive. Agar humlog negative dekhna chalu karenge toh negative baatein hi karenge. We should accept it as a part of his expression and move on."

He further added, "And may I dare say this, it doesn’t matter what the sex of the person is. If he or she is open to being photographed a certain way or not be, we should accept all. We should not make it a bigger deal than what it is already in society. Clothes in itself create a big issue and discussion. So I request you all, let’s accept and not a debate where there is none."
