Three days after a proctorial inquiry was ordered against Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) joint secretary Mohd. Three days after a proctorial inquiry was ordered against Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) joint secretary Mohd. Sajid, the students’ panel on Monday (February 24, 2025) demanded the revocation of the probe, claiming that he is being “targeted for his identity and activism”. This comes at a time when 17 Jamia Millia Islamia students are protesting against their suspensions.
The notice issued to Mr. Sajid on February 21 states that there was a complaint against him for “obstructing the warden” and “creating a ruckus” in front of the Lohit hostel. He has been asked to appear before the Proctor on February 27 to explain his conduct.
However, the JNUSU joint secretary told The Hindu, “When the warden arrived for checking, I told him that a washroom in the hostel has been shut for a year, and it should be opened.”
In its statement, the students’ union panel said the inquiry against its member is part of a “well-documented, ongoing pattern of intimidation against students, especially those from marginalised communities”. It also alleged that the warden had, during the February 21 inspection, resorted to “threats and intimidation”.
