Jithender Reddy elected TG Olympic Association president
HYDERABAD
A.P. Jithender Reddy, Adviser to government (Sports), was elected as president of the Telangana Olympic Association (TOA) while P. Malla Reddy, incumbent joint-secretary, has been elected as general secretary.
Though the elections to the body, which governs the Sports Associations across the State, were held on November 21, the results were withheld following a legal dispute. With the court clearing the hurdle, the results were announced on Wednesday.
Mr. Jithender Reddy polled 43 votes while his nearest rival, V. Chamundeswaranath, vice-president of Telangana Badminton Association and now IPl Governing Council member, got just nine votes. Mr. Malla Reddy polled 40 votes while his opponent Babu Rao Sagar got 12 votes.
D. Satish Goud was elected as Treasurer after polling 40 votes while Pradeep Kumar got 12. The rest of the office-bearers were elected unanimously.
Mr. Jithender Reddy thanked voters for the faith reposed in him and said that sports was never a priority under the previous BRS government. “There was mere show off than any real measures at the grassroots level with regard to the formulation of a sports policy then. We will now change the entire sports fraternity, and host national and international events in the State to help Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy realise the dream of making Telangana the sports capital of India,” he said.
Mr. Malla Reddy said that the first objective of the TOA would be to realise the dream of Mr. Revanth Reddy to ensure maximum participation of athletes from Telangana in the next Olympics.
