Jeep Meridian 7-seater SUV teased ahead of mid-2022 launch

Jeep has announced that the upcoming three-row derivative of the Compass will be called Meridian and will be launched in India in mid-2022.
Jeep India has christened its 7-seater SUV as Meridian. The car is based on the Compass, and will rival the MG Gloster, Skoda Kodiaq and other 7-seat premium SUVs. Jeep named it the Meridian to resonate a strong bond with India, hence, the name refers to the 77th Meridian East, which also passes through the most populous areas on Earth.

Our product offensive for 2022 and beyond will continue to illustrate our commitment to India as we work towards strengthening our market presence. The Jeep Meridian will further push the brand's attractiveness and transform the product portfolio for the Indian market.”
To commemorate and cement its ties to India, Jeep drove the Meridian through the 77th Meridian starting from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, clad in a special camouflage that is an amalgamation of the most iconic culture and history of places through which the 77th Meridian passes. Visuals include the India Gate of Delhi, Camel of Rajasthan, Tiger of Madhya Pradesh and many others. The vehicle travelled more than 5,000km on its journey.
The journey served as the ultimate test for the Jeep Meridian’s capability and prowess, crossing Ladakh, Kashmir, Himachal, Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. the long journey also offered tough terrains, for the engine, suspension and overall build quality to prove its mettle.
Visually, through the intricate camouflage, one can notice the length of the vehicle, which is considerably longer than the Compass. The front grille is the same classic Jeep design, along with LED headlamps and DRLs similar to the Compass. Move to the body, and the long-wheelbase along with the long rear doors are apparent, created for an easy 2nd and 3rd row access. The rear features LED taillamps, but mounted higher up, it rides on blacked-out wheels.
Although awaiting official confirmation, the Jeep Meridian is expected to carry the interiors from the Compass itself other than small tweaks to differentiate it from its smaller sibling. This will include the 10.1-inch touch infotainment screen and the 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster, other features would include electrically adjustable seats, panoramic sunroof, wireless charger, climate control and others at par with the competition in the segment.
Power wise, the Meridian is expected to use the 2-litre diesel unit from the Compass, albeit in a higher state of tune producing close to 200bhp to counter the extra weight. Transmission wise, the DCT and 9-speed automatic should be on offer.
