Jana Nayagan goes to revising committee: What's next for Vijay's farewell film?
India Today
Vijay's Jana Nayagan has now been sent to the CBFC revising committee after complaints about its content. The film's release continues to face delays amid ongoing legal and administrative hurdles.
Thalapathy Vijay's final film Jana Nayagan has been sent to the Central Board of Film Certification's (CBFC) revising committee, according to sources. This decision comes from producers KVN Productions, weeks after a legal standoff with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). On Monday evening, KL Narayana, the producer of Vijay's Jana Nayagan also filed a letter with the Madras High Court Registry seeking withdrawal of the writ petition against the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The petition will be heard on February 10 at 10.30 am.
Following these latest developments, reports are doing the rounds that the makers are targetting a possible release in February. However, there has been no update from the producer's side, while the CBFC remains tight-lipped about the revising committee.
Though the road ahead remains uncertain, with committee formation timelines and confidential review processes, fans are waiting with bated breath for positive news. Jana Nayagan was slated to hit theatres on January 9. However, it was postponed indefinitely due to the delay in issuing of the censor certificate.
Now that the film is with the revising committee, what does it mean for Jana Nayagan?
During one of the court hearings, the legal counsel representing the CBFC claimed that the chairman of the board withheld the certificate after a member who watched the film filed a complaint. It claimed that certain dialogues in the film could damage or hurt religious sentiments. The complaint also flagged that emblems of the Armed forces used in the film have not been overseen by a defence expert as per rules. Following the internal complaint, the film was referred to a revising committee.
So, what does a revising committee do?
