IPL 2022: DC snatch win from jaws of defeat as Lalit Yadav, Axar Patel blitz stuns MI

IPL 2022: Axar Patel and Lalit Yadav emerged unlikely heroes with the bat as Delhi Capitals stunned Mumbai Indians in their opening match in Mumbai on Sunday. IShan Kishan's 81 not out went in vain as the 5-time champions' wait for opening-day win continues.

Mumbai Indians were stunned! Rohit Sharma-led team's wait for a win in their tournament opener extends to 10 years as Delhi Capitals snatched victory from the jaws of defeat in Match 2 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at the Brabourne Stadium on Sunday.

Delhi Capitals, chasing 178, looked done and dusted when Murugan Ashwin and Basil Thampi ran through their batting order. Rishabh Pant's side was reeling at 104/6 in the 14th over even as their captain's face looked gloomy at the dugout.

But little did Pant know that Lalit Yadav and Axar Patel would emerge as the heroes with the bat for them. While Lalit smashed 48 from 38 balls, Axar hit 38 from 17 as the duo stitched 75-run stand in just 7 overs, taking India's star pacer Jasprit Bumrah to the cleaners.

Mumbai Indians rode on Ishan Kishan's 81 not out as the wicketkeeper-batter did his enormous price tag justice as early as the opening match. The India star, who became the costliest buy at the IPL 2022 mega auction after MI bought him back for Rs 15.25 crore, hit 81 in just 49 balls as Mumbai posted 177/5 in 20 overs.

Ishan Kishan oozed confidence as he was happy to play second fiddle to Rohit Sharma in their opening partnership of 67 runs. Ishan hit 11 boundaries and 2 sixes as he carried the bat despite taking a blow to his toes towards the end of the innings.

Ishan took the attack to the likes of left-arm spinner Axar Patel and Shardul Thakur as Delhi Capitals missed their big names, including Anrich Nortje, who is still recovering from an injury.
