IPL 2022: CSK below par in all departments- Coach Stephen Fleming admits team in self-doubt after SRH defeat

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming admitted that his team faces grave concerns in all three departments of their game, following their fourth loss in IPL 2022

Chennai Super Kings coach Stephen Fleming attributed the run of losses in IPL 2022 to a two-fold problem -- unavailability of Deepak Chahar and an overall below-par showing in all departments. Fleming believes that the team's self-belief has been shaken after suffering their fourth successive defeat. He also lamented the lack of pressure exerted by them on the opposition.

Notably, CSK suffered their fourth straight loss, making it their worst start in the IPL's history. The Ravindra Jadeja-led side were handed an 8-wicket defeat at the hands of SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) as Kane Williamson's side chased down a modest 155 with over two overs to spare.

"I think it's clear. Batting, bowling and fielding is what we need to work on. And moving forward we improved our batting, bowling, and fielding. We were well outplayed today. We're sort of learning. We've got some issues around player availability, and in some areas a little bit underpowered, that we are just looking for players to step up.".

"And we haven't had any evidence that sort of helps the belief. We are not winning any games. Not being close to winning any games, you get a bit of self-doubt, and the players get a little bit niggly. So, we just got to work through that pretty quickly and try to find some rhythm and get back in the tournament," Fleming said.

Ravindra Jadeja is "unhappy" with the performance of the bowling unit while head coach Stephen Fleming feels the team needs to improve in every department going forward.

Defending champions CSK suffered its fourth consecutive loss on Saturday after receiving a one-sided eight-wicket thrashing at the hands of Sunrisers Hyderabad with young Abhishek Sharma playing the opposition bowlers with ease.

"It's with the ball that we are disappointed but we were 20-25 runs short," Jadeja said after the match.
