Apple is highly likely to launch a satellite communication feature but that may not work everywhere.
Apple’s upcoming iPhone 13 is expected to come with a satellite communication feature that will allow it to make calls and send messages in areas with low network coverage. This will be possible because of low-earth-orbit satellite communication, but a recent report said Apple will reserve this feature for emergencies. Now, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has given additional details in his newsletter, mentioning that this iPhone 13 feature will be available in select markets. “The emergency features will work in areas without any cellular coverage and only in select markets,” said Gurman in his newsletter. There is no mention of the reason why Apple would implement this feature for certain markets, but Gurman has talked about Apple’s eventual plan to deploy its own satellites to disseminate information through that mode to its devices. However, that will take years to come through. This means that not all iPhone 13 users will be able to count on this feature.
