Interstate drug cartel busted in Delhi, heroin worth Rs 20 crore recovered

The Delhi Police has busted an interstate drug cartel and recovered heroin worth Rs 20 crore. The police have also arrested one key player of the cartel.
A team of the Delhi Police special cell’s northern range busted an interstate drug cartel by arresting a key player on May 9. The police recovered 5 kg of heroin worth more than Rs 20 crore in the international market.
The arrested member of the cartel has been identified as Rajesh Gupta (47) from Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar. The police also recovered one mobile handset and two SIM cards used in the business from Gupta.
Officers under the northern range special cell started an investigation after receiving information that an interstate drug cartel was active in Manipur, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. According to the information they received, the members of the cartel were involved in supplying high-grade heroin in Delhi NCR and Uttar Pradesh. They procured the heroin from suppliers in the border states.

The authorities took three to four months to develop a case based on this information. During their investigation, they identified several members of the cartel and kept them under surveillance.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of the special cell, Rajiv Ranjan Singh said, “On May 9, a team led by inspector Vivekandnand Pathak and inspector Kuldeep Singh received information about one key member of the drug cartel. He was identified as Rajesh Gupta, a resident of Kushinagar, UP who was engaged in supplying heroin under the directions of Shivam and Pankaj, who are residents of Bareilly, UP. They procured the heroin from Limanthang, a resident of Manipur.”
“We were informed that Rajesh Gupta would arrive near Delhi’s Gandhi market in DDU Marg. Accordingly, a raiding party was constituted and he was apprehended on the spot on May 9. We recovered 5 kg of fine quality heroin from his possession,” added Ranjan Singh.
