Internet reminisces on 2016 makeup era. 'We all want to go back.'
USA TODAY
Beauty creator Dreyah Bentivegas spoke to USA TODAY on why 2016 was a popular year for makeup.
If any words could describe a 2016 beauty enthusiast, it’s a “beat” face.
A makeup bag was incomplete without full coverage foundation, dip brow pomade, a shimmery highlighter, a matte lipstick, under-eye powder, voluminous false lashes, and a trendy eyeshadow palette. You also can’t forget the contour to look snatched!
And of course, you had to show it off by using the dog or flower crown filter on Snapchat.
“2016 we just had nighttime makeup all day basically,” one X user said in a recent viral post.
Unlike the new wave of the low-effort “Clean Girl Aesthetic” many are associating with Gen-Z, the glam of 2016 was unapologetic.
