Inter-university netball tourney for women begins in Vijayawada

The All India Inter-University Women's Netball Tournament 2025-26 kicks off in Vijayawada with 55 teams competing.
The All India Inter-University Netball (Women) Tournament 2025-26 commenced at Maris Stella College in Vijayawada on Saturday. Fifty-five university teams from across the country are participating in the five-day event organised by Krishna University.
According to a press release, the tournament, scheduled from February 14 to 18, is being conducted on a knock-out-cum-league basis under the supervision of Netball Association of India.
Minister for Transport, Sports and Youth Services M. Ram Prasad Reddy, who was the chief guest, stated that sports foster strength, teamwork and determination. “Netball is more than a game. It is empowerment, confidence and friendship. These players inspire us with their skill and sportsmanship,” he said.
Krishna University Vice-Chancellor K. Ramji welcomed the dignitaries, including Vijayawada East MLA Gadde Rammohan, Maris Stella College principal Inyasamma, and others. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Ramji said their collective aim was to promote sports on par with education.
A march past by all 55 participating teams became the highlight of the inaugural ceremony. This was followed by a band performance by students of St. John’s School, Gannavaram.
