Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker distributes temporary housing allotment worth ₹116 crore to 972 beneficiaries
Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker M. Appavu on Saturday distributed temporary housing allotment orders to 972 beneficiaries, under the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board (TNUHDB) at a cost of ₹116 crore at Valliyoor and Panakudi areas in Tirunelveli district.
The allotments were handed over to the beneficiaries at events held in Valliyoor and Panakudi.
A total of 468 flats in Panakudi, constructed at a cost of ₹53 crore and 504 flats in Valliyoor, built at a cost of ₹63 crores were handed over to the beneficiaries.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Appavu said that these houses were constructed with 75% funding from the State government, 15% from the union government and 10% contribution from the beneficiaries. Noting that the construction at both areas has been completed by 80%, he added that each house is 410 sq feet, with a living room, bed room, kitchen, bathroom and toilet.
He said that beneficiaries from marginalised income groups may find it difficult to pay the 10% contribution immediately. To prevent them from borrowing at high interest, a decision had been taken in consultation with Tirunelveli District Collector, District Revenue Officer, Regional Manager of Indian Overseas Bank and District Lead Bank Manager to issue temporary allocation orders to the beneficiaries and 10% contribution will be paid by the bank directly to TNUHDB.
He added that after the completion of construction and once the beneficiaries occupied the houses, arrangements have been made for them to remit the 10% contribution to the bank in affordable monthly instalments along with interest.
