Indians betrayed: AAP slams US trade deal, zero tariffs on America
India Today
The announcement by US President Donald Trump about a trade deal with India has raised questions as to what stopped the government from announcing the same, with the opposition asking the Centre to come out clean.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday slammed the recently announced US-India trade deal, alleging that the government has compromised India’s interests by agreeing to terms that favour American goods and disadvantage Indian stakeholders. AAP said that the trade deal with the US was a "betrayal to the people of India".
The party claimed the agreement cannot be seen as a win for Indian industry, farmers, MSMEs and workers.
AAP questioned the fairness of the deal’s tariff structure, posting, "Zero tariffs for US goods entering India. 18% tariffs slapped on Indian exports. If this is a "win," who exactly won? Because Indian industry, farmers, MSMEs and workers clearly didn’t".
The trade deal was announced after months of negotiations amid tariff tensions. Opposition parties have raised concerns over the lack of detailed public information and questioned why the nation learnt about the deal through US President Donald Trump rather than the Indian government.
AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh launched a sharp attack on the Centre, calling the deal "a betrayal to the Indian people".
In a post on X, he said, "Prime Minister Modi's trade deal with the US is a huge betrayal and deception against India and Indian farmers. The government must come to Parliament and explain at whose behest they stopped buying oil from Russia".

This moment comes days after the Supreme Court allowed Harish Rana to die with dignity – a historic first court-ordered case of passive euthanasia in India. The court acknowledged the medical opinion that Rana will never recover and that the tubes that feed him and keep him alive are only prolonging his pain.
