An Indian man described his experience of alleged racial bias at a 5-star resort in Mauritius after influencer Sachin Awasthi's harrowing detention in South Korea went viral.
A luxury holiday meant to celebrate a career milestone turned sour for an Indian tech reviewer, who has alleged that he and his family were subjected to racial discrimination during their stay at a five-star resort in Mauritius.
Sharing his experience on X under the handle @Starcommander10, he claimed that despite paying Rs 3.5 lakh for the trip, they were treated differently from European guests at the property.
The man said he was prompted to recount the incident after watching influencer Sachin Awasthi’s recent account of being detained in South Korea and China. “Watched the video and it gave me chills,” he wrote, adding that while he had encountered racism before, “the worst experience was in Mauritius.”
According to his post, the trip was intended as a gift to his parents after he secured a dream job. However, trouble began on Easter afternoon when the family attempted to book a table for lunch.
They were asked to wait 15 minutes due to limited availability, but no one followed up. When they approached the restaurant around 1.45 pm, he said a staff member questioned whether they were guests and walked away without clarification.
It was only after a European family informed them about a special Easter lunch event that they realised a celebration was underway. By 2:30 pm, still waiting and with no alternative dining options nearby, his mother approached a housekeeping staff member for help.

The profiles of at least three of China's leading nuclear, missile and radar experts were scrubbed from the website of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the country's most prestigious academic body. This comes as a series of purges under Premier Xi Jinping's anti-corruption campaign have decimated the upper echelons of China's military and scientific community.

The aircraft had also been used by senior Iranian officials and military figures for both domestic and international travel, and for coordinating with allied countries, the Israeli military said. Meanwhile, Dubai International Airport has resumed flight operations after a temporary suspension of about seven hours caused by a drone strike near a fuel tank facility.
