India Women eye redemption in pink-ball Test in Alyssa Healy's Australia farewell
India Today
AUSW vs INDW: Harmanpreet Kaur's India and Alyssa Healy's Australia will lock horns in the pink-ball Women's Test, starting March 6 at the WACA in Perth. The focus will be on Alyssa Healy, who'll play in her last international match for the Aussies.
The stage is set for a historic contest as Australia and India prepare to face off in a one-off pink-ball Women’s Test at the WACA Ground in Perth, the final match of the ongoing multi-format series. With pride and momentum on the line, the clash carries added significance for both teams, even though Australia have already retained the trophy.
The hosts currently lead the multi-format series 8-4 after sweeping the ODI leg 3-0, while India had earlier claimed the T20I series 2-1. Under the series points system, a win in the Test would allow India to draw level at 8–8, making the final fixture crucial for Harmanpreet Kaur’s side, despite Australia having already secured the overall multi-format points series.
India had taken a 4–2 lead after winning the T20I series, but Australia made it 8-4 by sweeping the ODI series. Under the series points system, each limited-overs match is worth two points, while the Test carries four points. A win for Australia in the Test would seal the series at 12-4.
Beyond the series context, the spotlight will firmly be on Australia captain Alyssa Healy, who is set to play her final international match for the national team. One of the most influential players in modern women’s cricket, Healy will be keen to sign off in style in front of a home crowd in Perth. The wicketkeeper-batter recently delivered a spectacular farewell in ODI cricket, smashing a match-winning 158 off just 98 balls in Hobart to help Australia seal a 3–0 series sweep over India.
That blistering knock, studded with boundaries and played at a stunning strike rate, served as a reminder of Healy’s ability to dominate attacks on big occasions. Heading into the pink-ball Test, the veteran will be hoping to finish her international career on a similarly positive note and lead Australia to another statement performance.
