Women's World Cup 2022: India, the runners-up of the 2017 edition, will take on Pakistan in their opening match at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui from 6:30 am IST on Sunday, March 6.
India women will begin their World Cup 2022 campaign against Pakistan at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand on Sunday, March 6. Having reached the final of the last edition in 2017, Mithali Raj's side would want to come up with another strong showing.
Runners up in the 2017 and 2005 editions, India are eager to go one step ahead and claim the title that has eluded them, especially skipper Mithali Raj and veteran pacer Jhulan Goswami, who will be playing their last World Cup.
The Indian team reached New Zealand a month earlier in order to acclimatise to the conditions.
However, the bowlers struggled compared to the batting unit, which managed to score in excess of 250 runs five times in the seven 50 over outings, including two warm-up matches. India lost a lone T20I and 4 ODIs before winning an inconsequential final ODI against New Zealand.
However, having won 3 matches on the run, Mithali's girls should head into their World Cup opener on a confident note.
India have never lost an ODI to Pakistan in the history of women's cricket but captain Mithali Raj said the Women in Blue will not take anyone lightly at the Women's World Cup.
"I think Pakistan is also a good side and I am sure they have prepared very hard for the tournament and so have we. Every team here, we can’t take any team lightly. So we will get into playing every game with a lot of intensity and with a lot of confidence," Mithali Raj said.
