In an intimate interview, Eric Dane encouraged his daughters to live in the present, fall in love, choose their friends wisely and fight with dignity.
In a highly emotional, vulnerable last interview, the late Eric Dane, known for playing Dr. Mark Sloan on "Grey's Anatomy," shares his last words to his two daughters, Georgia and Billie.
Dane, 53, died on Thursday, Feb. 19, following a battle with ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease. On the morning of Friday, Feb. 20, Netflix released "Famous Last Words: Eric Dane," a 50-minute, intimate interview between Dane and series creator Brad Falchuk. The two discussed Dane's acting career, living with and advocating for ALS, but mostly, Dane's resilience through hardships and love for his family.
At the conclusion of the interview, Falchuk left Dane to address a camera alone, leaving his last words for family, friends, and fans. Dane chose to speak directly to his daughters, Billie, 15, and Georgia, 14.
"Billie and Georgia, these words are for you," Dane began. "I tried. I stumbled sometimes, but I tried. Overall, we had a blast, didn't we? I remember all the times we spent at the beach. The two of you, me and mom in Malibu, Santa Monica..." Dane continued before pausing to hold back tears, "...Hawaii, Mexico. I see you now playing in the ocean for hours, my water babies. Those days, pun intended, were heaven."
Dane then left his daughters with four things he learned from living with ALS: Live now; fall in love, not necessarily with someone but something; choose your friends wisely; and fight, "with every ounce of your being and with dignity," when faced with challenges.
