I got him before he got me: Trump on Khamenei's killing in US-Israel strikes in Iran

US President Donald Trump said he "got" Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei before an alleged Iranian assassination plot against him could succeed.
“I got him before he got me. They tried twice. Well, I got him first,” US President Donald Trump told an American journalist when asked about the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Trump was referring to what US intelligence agencies believe was a 2024 Iranian plot to assassinate him.
“I just spoke to President Trump for several minutes about Iran. I asked him about who is going to take over now that the Ayatollah, the Supreme Leader, is gone, and his answer was interesting. He said the attack was so successful it knocked out most of the candidates,” ABC News Chief Washington Correspondent Jonathan Karl said.
“He told me it's not going to be anybody that we were thinking of because they're all dead. I talked to him about the fact that the Iranians had tried to kill him. There was a plot in 2024, an Iranian plot to try to kill Trump, and he said of the Ayatollah, I got him before he got me. They tried twice. Well, I got him first,”the journalist said in a video posted on X.
On how long the war could continue, Trump said he had initially expected it to last four to five weeks, but added that the operation could end sooner while also indicating he was prepared for a longer campaign if necessary.
Referring to the three Americans killed in the conflict, Trump said, “It’s war, and you have casualties in war,” Karl added.

On March 18, Israel struck a gas field in Iran. Tehran responded in a matter of hours, striking refineries in several Gulf countries. What explains this sharp, quick counter-attack capability of a country whose military infrastructure has supposedly been severely degraded? The answer lies in a cheap drone and a dispersed military.
