Hyderabad NGO deploys AI-powered app to transform primary healthcare in city’s urban slums

Hyderabad NGO HHF partners with U.S. start-up MIDOC to deploy AI health app in urban slums, improving healthcare access.

Hyderabad-based healthcare NGO Helping Hand Foundation (HHF) has deployed an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered health application at the primary healthcare level in urban slums.

The initiative is a collaboration with MIDOC, a U.S.-based start-up that developed the AI-driven health app. Under a formal agreement, HHF will implement the MIDOC app across its 12 community-centric healthcare centres, which collectively served 5.56 lakh patients in 2024.

Initially, the app has been launched as a pilot programme at five centres located at Rajendra Nagar, Shaheen Nagar, Ghouse Nagar, and Hasan Nagar. The rollout follows extensive orientation and training for doctors at these centres.

The AI-based tool is designed to enhance preventive healthcare management. It actively monitors key health metrics and generates alerts for abnormalities, enabling doctors to take timely action. One of its features is a centralised health profile, which consolidates medical records for all family members in one location. “This allows seamless updates of new reports, real-time alerts for patients, and a structured approach to healthcare tracking,” said Mujtaba Hasan Askari of HHF.

The app also provides AI-driven health insights, offering personalised preventive measures based on historical data. On the curative side, it functions as an AI-powered doctor’s assistant, generating automated prescriptions from patient-doctor conversations, thereby reducing manual paperwork. It also provides interactive suggestions regarding prescribed medicines and aids in summarising lengthy medical reports for quicker decision-making.

Mr. Askari said that another key feature is its AI-driven follow-up mechanism, which sends alerts based on treatment timelines and patient progress. Patients receive personalised notifications for upcoming appointments, medication schedules, and health check-ups. Additionally, the app supports real-time AI chat for medical queries, telemedicine consultations, and virtual follow-ups.

From a patient’s perspective, the app simplifies the management of medical records, prescriptions, and lab results through easy uploads and smart categorisation. It also facilitates integration with specialists and healthcare facilities for targeted care. Furthermore, interactive visual analytics offer a comprehensive AI-based health overview, helping patients and families track trends and improvements.
