Husbands used to beat them after drinking: Brother of Rajasthan women who died by suicide over domestic abuse

Three sisters, married to men of the same family, allegedly killed themselves over domestic abuse in Rajasthan. Their brother alleged that their husbands used to beat them after drinking alcohol.

Their husbands used to beat them after drinking alcohol, said the brother of the three women who allegedly killed themselves over domestic abuse in Rajasthan's Jaipur.

The brother of the three Rajasthan women, who killed themselves over alleged domestic abuse, said their husbands used to beat them after drinking alcohol. He said he spoke to them the night before the incident but they did not mention any problem.

Banwari Meena, the brother, said, "But they did not mention any problem. It didn't look like they would do all this. Every day at home, their husbands used to beat them after drinking alcohol, but my sisters used to tell me they would handle it."

The bodies of three women and two children were found in a well in Jaipur district’s Dudu town on Saturday. The women, who were sisters, were identified as Kalu Devi, Mamta, and Kamlesh. The two kids — one aged four and the other just 27 days — were Kalu Devi’s children. The police are suspecting suicide.

A cousin of the victims, Hemraj Meena, filed an FIR against the husbands and in-laws of the victims, alleging domestic abuse and murder. In the FIR, it was mentioned that recently, the youngest sister's husband broke her phone after he "caught her speaking to a man on call around 1 am".

The man she was talking to has also been detained for interrogation. According to the FIR, he used to study with the youngest victim.

Another sister, who was preparing for the police constable recruitment exam, was also beaten up by her husband as he was against her studying.
