Following arguments with parents, the school management declared a holiday for the day
Many parents of children enrolled in the Government High School at Indavara near Chikkamagaluru entered into an argument with the teaching staff and the police as students wearing headscarves were not allowed to enter on February 15.
The teachers stopped the students at the gate. They were told to remove their headscarves, to which the students refused. Their parents appealed to the teachers to allow students as many of them are SSLC students who were to appear for the preparatory examinations.
The parents told mediapersons that the interim order of the High Court of Karnataka was only for college students, not for high schools. “We want our children to get quality education. They have not violated the school uniform. They have covered their head with the veil, which is part of the school uniform,” parents said.
