Heavy and widespread rain in central region

A holiday has been declared for schools and colleges in Tiruchi, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Perambalur, Pudukottai and Ariyalur districts in view of the rain.
Several parts of the central region, including the Cauvery delta districts, received heavy overnight rainfall.
Nagapattinam town took the brunt of the rain fury recording 171.20 mm of rainfall during the 24-hour period ending at 6:00 a.m. on Friday.
Heavy rain also lashed Thiruvaiyaru (122 mm), Budalur (100.40) and Thanjavur town (83 mm) in Thanjavur district; Tiruvarur (103.3 mm) and Nannilam (94.2 mm) in Tiruvarur district; Labbaikudikadu (109 mm) and Agaram Segoor (100 mm) and Perambalur (72 mm) in Perambalur district; Avudaiyarkovil (79.40 mm) in Pudukottai district and Thirumanur (70.8 mm) in Ariyalur district during the same period.
