Disposing of a petition that sought a direction to the State government to issue an order to fix the prices of essential commodities, the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court observed that it was a policy matter that had to be decided by an appropriate authority. A Division Bench of Justices T. S. Sivagnanam and S. Ananthi observed that the State had ensured the supply of all essential commodities through public distribution system, and other special packages had been made available to the public to ensure that they were not affected.The election authorities are gearing up for the counting of votes cast in the simultaneous elections to Lok Sabha and Assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh, scheduled to be held on June 4. The Collectors and Election Officers of Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli and Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) districts said on May 23 (Thursday) that their teams were ready for the counting of votes.
Responding to the prolonged water scarcity, the residents of the area took to the streets in protest on Wednesday.
